The 5.5% up day for the S&P 500 on Thursday was only the 23rd time since 1950 where the stock market was up more than 5%. Does this mean the market is out of the woods? If history is any guide, not quite yet.
The chart in this post shows the previous 22 occasions and how the market performed in the following months. While subsequent returns over the next 1, 3 and 6 month periods were decidedly mixed, returns looking a year out were overwhelmingly higher.
